In 2020, Poland banned the embryopathological premise for legal abortions. Thanks to our grassroots network, women from Poland could still access safe abortion in clinics and hospitals abroad. We helped set up procedures, pay for flight tickets and accommodation.
WE MAY NO LONGER BE ABLE TO.
Either we raise 250 000 EUROS, or women with complicated pregnancies will be let on their own. We are the only organisation providing residents of Poland abortions abroad. These women would otherwise have no access to safe abortion.
WHY SO MUCH?
These abortions are more difficult to organise and, above all, more expensive. They usually involve pregnancy abnormalities that are detected after the 12th week. This severely limits the options: only a few European countries are available, and when these clinics are full, we have to organise trips to Mexico (!!!).
- The cost of one such abortion ranges from 600 to as much as 3000 euros.
- Most of our beneficiaries need us to cover the entire cost of the abortion, as well as the travel and accommodation costs. Procedures, flight tickets, hotels – all of this is constantly getting more expensive.
- Even though we perform work for the Polish state, we do not receive public funds. Under the Law and Justice party (PiS), we could count on grants from other organisations and European governments, but now they seem to think that the situation of women in Poland has magically changed for better.
What happens if we don't survive as an organisation?
Women with high-risk pregnancies, with complications, whom Polish doctors refuse to help, will die even more often in Polish hospitals.
