Michele is facing up to 8 years in prison for calling Italian fossil fuel giant ENI "guilty and criminal" and urging people to engage in civil disobedience against ENI. He is charged with defamation and criminal solicitation. But who are the real criminals? ENI has known since the 1970s that extracting fossil fuels would have "catastrophic consequences," yet it continues as if nothing is wrong, bringing us to the brink of collapse.

This is not an isolated attack, nor does it only concern Michele. It concerns me, and it concerns you, too. Since 2019, this is at least the sixth lawsuit that ENI has filed against journalists, activists, and NGOs.
